Freeze warning issued for Tri-Cities area. It could be a ‘season ending' freeze
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Mid-Columbia, including the Tri-Cities, for Friday night into Saturday morning. For some areas where weather has remained fairly mild so far this fall it could be a “season ending” freeze, or one that signals plants to go dormant, according to the weather service. It recommends bringing pets inside and covering delicate plants Friday night. It also is time to schedule residential sprinkler systems to be blown out to remove water that could freeze and damage the system. Cold and dry air is expected to settle over central and eastern Washington and Oregon Friday evening as an upper weather system leaves the area. If the temperature drops to 32 or lower Friday night, it will be the third freeze for the Tri-Cities this fall, according to weather service data. The temperature dropped to 29 degrees on Oct. 13 and to 31 degrees on Oct. 16 and 18 this year. Nighttime temperatures should warm some starting Sunday night, with lows of 37 to 38 forecast by the weather service Sunday through Tuesday night. The high has only been as cold as the 50s in the Tri-Cities on two days this fall,
