It is a busy week for Walker Lions as we also host the annual Lions Scholarship Award Banquet Wednesday night at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School. I am not exactly sure how long Lions have hosted this banquet but I believe it is as old as the Walker Lions Club which is over 40 years.

Awards are given to the outstanding student in each area of study. Recipients are chosen by the teachers in the area. The banquet is attended by students and their parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Thelma Grimley this week as well. According to the funeral home services have been scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church.

With the advent of warmer weather the Lions Trishaw, “Cycling Without Age,” is busy giving rides to seniors who wish to enjoy the many trails surrounding Walker. There is a schedule in place and I will have that next week. Some of the seniors who enjoyed rides this past week included a group from Park Estates. If you or someone you know would like a ride please contact me and I will pass the word along and provide information as to where you may be picked up. Sometimes it may be possible to come to your home. My number is (715) 821-1761.

The Lions have a mission — Mission 1.5 is the drive to reach 1.5 million members worldwide, so we can better meet the growing needs of our communities and serve more people than ever before. So if you think you might like to become part of the largest service organization in the world. think about becoming a Lion.

We meet once a month on the second Wednesday of the month at Bayside Bar and Grill here in Walker. Give any member a call or come to a meeting and we will get you a sponsor.

    We serve!
