Good Sam opens specialty pharmacy in Vincennes

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Good Samaritan announces the grand opening of its new specialty pharmacy on Wednesday in Knox County.

The new pharmacy is located at 305 South 5th Street in Vincennes. Good Samaritan said the pharmacy’s location and local staff ensure that patients can access their specialty medications conveniently.

Shane Wilson is the Director of Pharmacy at Good Samaritan Hospital. He explains in more detail exactly what a specialty pharmacy does.

“So specialty pharmacy supplies drugs to patients that are in limited distribution, these drugs cannot be handled by regular retail pharmacies, and the distribution is limited by manufacturer or insurance coverage or FDA,” Wilson explained. “Usually they’re high-cost medications and ones that require some additional monitoring by pharmacy staff.”

Wilson also said another benefit of this local specialty pharmacy is keeping money in the community.
