TOWN OF BINGHAMTON (WIVT/WBGH) – A 17-year-old from Vestal has written a self-help book for fellow teenagers in language they can understand.

Christian Taber is a junior at Seton Catholic Central.

He recently published “Be Your Own Navigator, A Success Guide For Teens By A Teen.”

Taber says he was inspired to write his own motivational book after hearing a self help audio book in the 6th grade.

He has reflected on lessons he’s learned either the easy way or the hard way. They include staying organized, public speaking and leadership. Taber says he wanted to present life skills from a relatable perspective.

“Setting goals, managing your money, managing your time, they are very hefty skills. But it’s written in a way that it’s just like you’re talking to me at lunch. It’s easy to digest, it’s something where you can maybe think of, ‘I have had that happen to me, maybe I could have done that better.’ Or, ‘I have something like this coming up, maybe this will help me approach it a little better,'” he said.

Taber says his project has a nautical theme, including lighthouse imagery, because of his love of the sea.

He’s expanding Navigator Teen into a lifestyle brand with merchandise and social media platforms.
