VESTAL, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – The Boy Scouts is honoring four brothers with the Broome County Distinguished Citizen Award.

The Baden-Powell Council announced that the Matthews brothers, from Matthews Auto, Jim, Doug, John, and Rob will receive the Distinguished Citizen Award.

The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Broome County.

The recipients are chosen by a committee comprised of previous award winners.

The brothers will receive the award during a dinner ceremony, surrounded by their friends, family, Scouts, and the people they’ve impacted.

Jim Matthews says his family has called Broome home for over 60 years, and he recalls when his father received the same award in 1993.

Broome County Distinguished Citizen Award Recipient, Jim Matthews says, “This recognition was bestowed upon our father over forty years ago so, it holds a very special place in our hearts. I’m sure if he was here, he’d remind us that it didn’t take four of him to receive this recognition.”

Jim listed off his brothers’ successes, such as Rob continuing to grow the Matthews Auto business including a recent acquisition in Massachusetts, Doug’s involvement in transforming the Oakdale Commons, and John’s technology group based out of Binghamton.
