STAUNTON — Retirement wasn't the thing for Tony Dimeo, who co-owned Ciro's Pizza in Verona until closing at the end of last year and selling the business, which reopened under new management in February.

In 1985, Dimeo became the manager of the new location of Ciro's in Verona and, seven months later, he bought the business from the previous owners. He was joined by his brother Sal and the two owned the business for nearly 40 years before retiring.

But after four months of retirement, Dimeo couldn't sit still much longer. He said he missed the restaurant business.

"I wanted to do something," he said. "I don't do it for money. I do it just to stay busy. I miss very much over there (at Ciro's)."

Dimeo has started a business out of his home which is located just outside of Verona on Windy Knoll Lane. Operating in a large kitchen in his basement, Dimeo has started Uncle Tony's Kitchen, offering homemade Italian food in family dish size.

"I know a lot of people who love it," Dimeo said. "Two weeks ago I had one customer, he got married, he ordered seven trays of lasagna."

A family dish serves about six people, Dimeo said, and he is offering the dishes for pickup on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. He is asking for at least a day notice, more if possible. The dishes come with fresh rolls also.

He may expand the menu as he moves forward, but right now Dimeo is offering family dishes for the following:

    • lasagna $29.99
    • spaghetti with meatball $29.99
    • spaghetti with meat sauce $29.99
    • baked ziti $29.99
    • pasta and peas $24.99
    • pizzaiola eggs with ziti $24.99
    • family stuffed peppers with spaghetti $24.99
    • family salad $19.99
