Oneida sweeps Canastota in softball doubleheader
Oneida softball won a pair of five-innings games in a doubleheader against non-league foe Canastota at home on Tuesday. In the first game, Oneida scored six runs in the second and five more in the third for an 11-2 win.
Brayden Gifford homers in first varsity at-bat in 8-3 win for Rome Free Academy
Rome Free Academy scored in each of the first four innings en route to an 8-3 win against visiting Holland Patent in Tri-Valley League baseball on Tuesday. RFA’s Brayden Gifford started his varsity career with a bang by smacking a two-run home run in his first at-bat. Tyler Lokker had two hits and scored a run with one batted in. Marco Sparace and Mike Flint each had a hit, run and RBI. John Sharrino had a hit and two runs scored.

Buy Now CELESTIAL SIGHT — A westward flying airliner passes by the moon in a waxing gibbous phase on Tuesday night. While the rare lunar eclipse on April 8 may have been obscured by clouds for much of the region, there are some more common but still awe-inspiring sights to behold in the skies above the Mohawk Valley. The moon, according to meteorologists, was at 57% illumination on Tuesday. The percentage will gradually increase until a full moon phase begins on Tuesday, April 23.
