VERONA, NJ - Retired Verona Police Chief Doug Huber will be the Grand Marshal for this year’s Memorial Day Parade.

A combat veteran of Vietnam, Huber joined the Verona Police Department as an officer on April 1, 1974. He quickly rose the ranks and was designated Verona’s Police Chief in February of 1994, a role he held until he retired from the Police Department in 2015. He was also the township’s manager and public safety director from 1995 to 2003.

“On Memorial Day, which honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, it is fitting to recognize community members who carry on the American values that our fallen military service members fought to uphold,” said Verona Mayor Christopher Tamburro. “Doug Huber epitomized service, leadership, community spirit, humility, and patriotism as a Marine in combat, police chief, and township manager. He continues to set an example for all of Verona as a volunteer member of our Rescue Squad, honoring the commitment to our country and community that he made as a young Marine.''

The 2024 Memorial Day Parade starts at Everett Field at 10 a.m. and walks down Bloomfield Ave, ending at Verona's Civic Center on 600 Bloomfield Ave.

Parade participants include the Verona Police and Fire Departments, Cedar Grove Fire Department, Verona and Cedar Grove Rescue Squads, Verona Marching Band, and the Verona Lions Club.
