Four the hard way: Vero Beach clips Viera in overtime for fourth-straight district title

Tuesday

Baseball

Treasure Coast (13-5) 6, John Carroll Catholic (12-9) 3: Jomar Alvarez produced team-bests of two hits and two RBI to lead the Titans. Patrick Tavarez and Logan Zavala had an RBI apiece. Meanwhile, Colin Jackson had the longest stint on the mound for the victors, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts through four innings.

Grady Messner had a team-best two hits for the Rams.

Jensen Beach (9-10) 14, Fort Pierce Central (8-11) 2 (F/5): The Falcons piled up 14 hits in a blowout victory. Leading the hit parade was Ty Velardo, who went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Jake Figman (2B, 2 RBI, R, SB), Dominic Donatucci (2B, BB, RBI, 3 R) and Hudson Gardiner (RBI, R) each added two hits.

Meanwhile Christian Herrington got the start on the mound, allowing an unearned run on two hits and no walks with four three strikeouts. Velardo also struck out the side in his one inning of relief.

South Fork (10-9) 3, Okeechobee (10-11) 0: Conner Wiggins went the distance on the mound for the Bulldogs. The senior fanned seven in a four-hit, no-walk shutout.

Matt Livingstone went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Quinn Sanderson added a hit and an RBI.

Master’s Academy (13-8) 10, Port St. Lucie (8-12) 1: Colton Thompson pitched five strong innings for the Patriots. The junior only gave up a run on a hit and three walks while striking out seven.

Offensively, Nate Downey, Joey Celano, Dean Buxton and C.J. Eiswerth each had two hits. Buxton drove in three runs while Celano had a double and three runs scored.

Victor Velasquez collected two doubles for the Jaguars.

Jupiter (15-6) 4, St. Lucie West Centennial (8-13) 2: Nico Williams and Gio Lopez each had two hits for the Eagles. Williams had two doubles while Darwinn Lara had a double and an RBI. Brayden Scheumeister was strong in relief, allowing only an unearned run on five hits and a walk through five innings.

Softball

St. Lucie West Centennial (14-5) 4, Jupiter (10-5) 0: Hailey Brereton tossed a one-hitter in yet another dominant effort in the circle. The junior had 15 strikeouts and two walks through seven innings.

Brereton helped her own cause at the plate by going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Myrna Pratt also went 2-for-3 with a double.

John Carroll Catholic (14-3) 2, Martin County (6-9) 1: The Rams won a low-scoring affair for their 10th consecutive win. Isabella Ramirez got the upper hand in a pitcher’s duel with Amelia Hannah. Ramirez allowed four hits and a walk with four strikeouts while Hannah scattered four hits and five walks with a pair of strikeouts through six innings of work.

Scoring a run, Ramirez also reached twice with a hit and a walk.

Treasure Coast (10-10) 7, Lincoln Park Academy (9-6) 0: Mia La Terra kept the Greyhound bats at bay by tossing a complete-game four-hitter. The junior struck out eight and allowed a walk during a 78-pitch effort.

La Terra received huge offensive support from Kathryn Worley. The fellow junior recorded a hit in each of her four at-bats and scored twice. Jordan Golinski (2B, R) and Valerie Leon (RBI) each had two hits. La Terra reached three times with a hit and two walks and scored twice.

Fort Pierce Central (4-13) 20, Fort Pierce Westwood (1-12) 4 (F/5): Michaela Thomas had two hits, two RBIs and a double in the loss for the Panthers. Kiara Melgar chipped in with two hits and an RBI.

Boys Lacrosse

District 13-2A

No. 2 Martin County (10-3) 9, No. 3 South Fork (8-8) 4: Trey O’Donnell had four goals, three assists and five caused turnovers to lead the Tigers.

Taegan Boorman added two goals while Zane Sundheim and Brody Baird each had a goal and an assist. Ryan Diapoules racked up a team-best 10 ground balls.

The Bulldogs had little success against Patrick McCoy, who finished with nine saves. Martin County in the district championship game at 6 p.m. Wednesday at No. 1 Jupiter.

District 13-1A

No. 1 Benjamin (15-2) 14, No. 2 St. Edward’s (12-4) 8

Lincoln Park Academy (9-5) 8, Bayside (10-6) 1: Makayla Megnauth had possibly the best game of her young career. Every out the Greyhounds seventh grader recorded came via strikeout as she fanned 21 batters as part of a one-hit complete game. Offensively, Megnauth drove in six of the team’s eight runs. She blasted the first home run of her prep career and added a three-run double.

Sebastian River (12-10) 3, Master’s Academy (10-6) 2: Keira Carow was solid in the circle and had a perfect day at the plate for the Sharks. The junior allowed two runs on six hits and a walk with nine strikeouts through seven innings. She was also 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a run scored.

Whitney Villars, Makayla Smith and Jazmin Hunt each had a double, with Smith and Hunt producing an RBI apiece. Olivia Lore and Aubrey Grall each had two hits for Master’s Academy.

Vero Beach (10-10-1) 10, Heritage (2-14) 0 (F/5): Dayna Patten got the job done at the plate while Emma Youngblood took care of business at the plate for the Indians.

Tossing five innings, Patten only relinquished a hit and a walk with six strikeouts. She also scored three times, stole three bases and hit a double. Youngblood went 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk, four RBIs and a run scored.

Baseball

Lincoln Park Academy (9-5) 4, Fort Pierce Westwood (7-9-1) 1: Jaylyn Monds had a double and scored a run while Brandon Fillmore had an RBI for the Panthers.

Martin County (17-4) 11, Palm Beach Gardens (8-14) 6: Four players had two hits in the win for the Tigers. Anthony Trigillo and Frankie Brancaleone were both a part of that group, as each player collected a double. Trigillo drove in two runs while posting a walk and a run scored. Brancaleone had an RBI and a run scored.

The other two members of the two-hit club were Joseph Cuccurullo (RBI, R) and Will Perry (RBI, 2 R).

Vero Beach (17-3) 8, Astronaut (6-10) 0: Three pitchers completed for a shutout for the Indians. Sebastian Dimitroff had the longest stint on the mound, allowing a hit and a walk with 10 strikeouts in only four innings. Marshall Cobb added four strikeouts while Brandon Walker chipped in with a scoreless inning of work.

Offensively, Finley Holmes and Jace Romans each had two hits. Holmes clubbed a solo home run and scored twice. Romans contributed an RBI, a walk and a run scored. Elsewhere, Chase Wilson had two RBIs and Garret Srigley added a double and two runs scored.

Girls Lacrosse

District 13-2A

No. 1 Martin County (13-2) 17, No. 4 Wellington (7-10) 4: The top-seeded Tigers take on No. 2 Jupiter at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Stuart for the district title.

Boys Lacrosse

District 8-2A
