VERNON ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The City of Vernon’s first Black City Commissioner, Pastor Early Williams III, announced his plan to bid farewell after a historic tenure.

Williams will be returning home to Fort Worth to accept a preaching position.

“In seeking the Lord’s voice, it caused me great weeping and wailing, but his answer to me was, ‘Son, it’s time to go home.’ He spoke it in such a soft gentle voice that I could not refuse it, because that’s how he’s spoken to me throughout my ministry. So, I knew it was his voice, didn’t like it at the time but I had to yield and say, ‘Yes, Lord,'” Williams said.

T hroughout his time in office, Williams was involved with several initiatives aimed at addressing issues in the community, from mentoring the youth to bringing different communities together for worship service.

Reflecting on his tenure, Williams expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in affecting positive change.

Williams leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication to serving his community.

His departure marks the end of an era, but also the beginning of a new legacy of leadership and progress.
