    Elderly couple found dead in Vernon Hills home in apparent murder-suicide

    VERNON HILLS, Ill. — An investigation is underway after an elderly couple was found dead in their Vernon Hills home in an apparent murder-suicide Wednesday morning.

    Vernon Hills police responded to a call of two people found dead in a home in the 400 Block of Cherry Valley Road around 9:21 a.m.

    Upon arrival, officers found a 67-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene and were believed to be the married occupants of the address.

    A weapon was recovered at the scene and there were no signs of forced entry. Police suggest the incident to be a murder-suicide and that there is no apparent threat to the public.

    Identification of the deceased is pending family notification and confirmation by the Lake
    County Coroner’s Office.
