    USD tabs Carrie Eighmey as women’s basketball head coach

    VERMILLION, S.D. (KCAU) – Today begins a new era for women’s basketball at the University of South Dakota as the ‘Yotes announced Carrie Eighmey as the team’s new head coach. Eighmey will be the 12th head coach in program history.

    Eighmey has spent 12 seasons as a head coach, with her most recent stop at the University of Idaho during the 2023-24 season.

    The Edgar, Neb. native started her coaching experience off in the GPAC with a pair of stints at her alma mater, Hastings College, where she was an All-American point guard for the Broncos.

    After her second stint at Hastings, Eighmey coached at the University of Nebraska-Kearney from 2015-2023, leading the Lopers to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

    During her coaching career, Eighmey has totaled 248 wins.

    Eighmey replaces Kayla Karius, who departed for the head coach position at her alma mater, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
