A Valley Stream man is facing multiple charges after being accused of throwing a cellphone and injuring an officer responding to a disturbance Wednesday on North Central Avenue.

Detectives say 41-year-old Robert Musmacher was running in and out of traffic, causing a safety concern for motorists.

When officers arrived at the scene, police say he refused to comply with commands or exit the roadway.

Musmacher became violent and threw his cellphone at one of the officer’s heads, according to authorities.

Other officers secured and arrested him. He, and the injured officer were hospitalized for evaluation and treatment.

Police say the charges against Musmacher include second-degree assault, resisting arrest and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead when medically practical, according to authorities.
