Ride-along: Bulk trash handlers have their hands full
KINGMAN – Wednesdays are long days for City of Kingman trash handlers. Of course, they’re all long days, but Wednesday in particular because that’s when the City of Kingman Sanitation Department’s 17 trash truck drivers take a down-day from their regular routes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to group up into teams to scour the town for bulk trash pick-ups.
Mohave County Planning panel OKs subdivision of nearly 1,000 homes for Havasu Heights
LAKE HAVASU CITY — The Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending approval of a preliminary plat for an affordable housing subdivision proposed about 10 miles north of the Lake Havasu City limits. Commissioners expressed some concern about infrastructure and water but voted unanimously in support of the item considered during its monthly meeting held May 8 in Kingman.

Postal Service offering big reward for mail theft suspect
The United States Postal Service is now offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a man who robbed a mail carrier in late April. The robbery occurred near Farm and Hualapai back on April 29th.
19th annual Mary Chan’s Race for Hospice sees record turn-out
Kingman Regional Medical Center Foundation held its 19th annual “Mary Chan’s Race for Hospice” Saturday morning in downtown Kingman. There was a kid’s race, 5K and 10K Run and Walk. Over 200 people participated, the most ever. The event raises money for the Joan and Diana Hospice Home in Kingman, which provides end-of-life care for terminally ill patients. “We appreciate people’s support,” said Allen Poston, vice president of KRMC public relations and marketing. “We’d like to thank Mary Chan, who individually raises money for this event every year and is a huge supporter of hospice and the Kingman area.” He went on to say, “It’s nice for people in Kingman and surrounding areas to come together and raise money for an important cause.” To learn more or donate, visit their website at azkrmc.com/community/krmc-foundation.
El Mirage man in custody for 2022 “Gold Lady” double murder near Kingman
KINGMAN — An El Mirage man who is a suspect in the June 2022 double murder outside of Kingman is now in the Mohave County jail. Daniel Matthew Avila, 26, is charged with first-degree murder. He is currently in the Kingman jail without bond.
