    Things to do: Spend a sweet weekend at 48th annual Utica Ice Cream Festival

    Chill out this weekend and make the short trip to Utica for the Velvet Ice Cream's 48th Utica Ice Cream Festival at Ye Olde Mill. The weekend schedule is jam-packed with more than 50 craft vendors, 20 food vendors and all of the ice cream you could possibly desire. Live performances from Austin Finley and King Red and the Cadillac Band, Jared Foster, Ty Perkins and Glenn Parks Banjo will keep you entertained. Magic Nate will be doing shows over the weekend and the Performance Dogs of Ohio are also on the schedule. Save room for the ice cream eating contest and get your geek on at the COSI exhibits. Pose for a photo or two with cows from Brown Farmstead and watch animal demonstration provided by the Columbus Zoo. The festival is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. For the complete schedule and more information visit https://velveticecream.com .

    Garden-to-table class

    Spend the day with the Muskingum County Library System at the Maple-Harding Garden for a garden-to-table class. According to the website, "Join us in our local community gardens as we show you how to harvest seasonal produce and turn it into a delicious meal. This event series is a partnership between the Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District and the Muskingum County Library System." In the event of inclement weather, call the library to confirm the class is still taking place. The class is scheduled to run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday. The Maple-Harding Community Garden is located at 2720 Maple Ave. in Zanesville.

    National Road Yard Sale

    If you love chasing the thrill of finding a true gem at a yard sale, get ready for days of treasure hunting. The 21st annual National Road Yard Sale is once again taking place throughout Guernsey and Muskingum counties. The yard sale runs from Wednesday, May 29 until Sunday, June 2 and attendees can travel along U.S. Route 40 and search for the sales. Sale times vary throughout the event, with most vendors set up on Friday and Saturday. Find fresh baked goods, tools, clothes, vegetables, and more along the route.     6th annual Biggest Day Hike

    The Buckeye Trail Association will celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 1 with the 6th annual Biggest Day Hike. According to the press release, "National Trails Day is sponsored by the American Hiking Society on the first Saturday of June each year to recognize and promote the federal, state, and local trails that provide recreation, health benefits, and access to nature. The Buckeye Trail Association is encouraging everyone throughout Ohio to hike a local segment of the Buckeye Trail with the goal of collectively hiking 100% of the 1400+ miles of trail."     Live music by the water

    Grab a beverage and kick back with the lake and some sunshine as you rock out to Lock 17. This head-banging rock and roll cover band is always a good time. Performing at Papa Boo's in Thornville, Lock 17 covers classic rock legends AC/DC, KISS, Foreigner, Skid Row, and more.
