HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – As Kentucky Derby weekend approaches, a local trainer will have his horse take part in the festivities.

Utica’s Eric Foster trains Everland, who’s set to race in the Kentucky Oaks.

Kentucky Oaks is the day before the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs and is a staple of the weekend. It’s the most lucrative race for three-year old fillies.

Everland has won her most recent race and Foster believes the horse has confidence going into the race.

“Whenever we get these horses that want to win multiple races, then confidence becomes such a big thing. They have to believe in themselves, and once they do that, the whole thing changes for them,” said Foster.

The Kentucky Oaks includes $1.5 million in stakes.
