Things are happening at Urbana’s forthcoming H Mart
After a long, long wait, things are finally happening at the spot for our very own H Mart grocery store. Even in the yesterday’s rain, there were construction vehicles and workers starting to renovate Urbana’s vacant Save A Lot location on Broadway Avenue into the popular Korean grocery store.
Work begins on Urbana H-Mart
URBANA — Remodeling is underway for a building that will be home to the first H-Mart in downstate Illinois. The Asian supermarket chain received its building permit on April 30 and began renovations last week at the former Save A Lot store at 220 N. Broadway Ave., said Urbana Mayor Diane Marlin.

IDFPR misses deadline to procure new professional licensing system
In the past, the agency has cited their outdated licensing system for delays. To address that, Governor Pritzker signed legislation in December giving the agency ninety days to enter a contract with a vendor to obtain a new one. But that deadline has come and gone.

Earlier this week, we shared the news that Afghan Cuisine restaurant has permanently closed. Among Smile Politely editors, this is terribly sad news. The restaurant’s food was absolutely delicious. We hope that the owners are able to land on their feet and possibly consider another sort of food operation — truck, pop-up, anything — in the future.
