    Softball Recaps May 16-22

    Below are summaries of local softball games between May 16 and May 22 They were compiled by Sports Editor Nick Tabatt.

    Cardinals have strong start in sections

    The Upsala Cardinals softball team dominated the first section game against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Monday, May 20, winning 10-0. Macey graves led the team at the plate with one hit and three runs. Lydia Kokett with two hits and two runs batted in. Isabelle Leners pitched five innings, throwing seven strikeouts. The Cardinals had eight hits and three errors, while LPGE had four hits and nine errors.

    The Cardinals traveled to their last regular season game against Parkers Prairie Friday May 17, winning 6-2. Isabel Ripplinger had two hits, a run, and one run batted in. Other Cardinals with hits were Hannah Luedke, Brenna Graves, Macey Graves, and Allie Maciej. The Cardinals ended the game with six hits and two errors. Parkers Prairie had four hits and five errors.

    The Cardinals aso traveled to play against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Thursday, May 16, winning 10-0. Leners had three runs batted in while Hannah Heesen had two and Luedke earned three runs. Leners threw seven strikeouts on the mound and allowed two walks. The Cardinals had 10 hits and one error. BBE had one hit and four errors.

    Royals lose first section game

    The Royalton Royals softball team lost a close section game against Milaca Monday May 20, losing 4-3. Mika Zimny threw two strikeouts on the mound, allowed two walks and made four errors. Those who earned a run were Emily Block, Alise Shoenrock and Brianna Wenner. The Royals earned three hits while Milaca earned nine. Both teams had one error.

    The Royals played against the Pierz Pioneers on the road Friday, May 17, losing 9-7. Schoenrock had four hits, with two runs batted. Jetta Blais had two hits, with one run batted in. Zimny pitched three innings, throwing four strikeouts. Schoenrock also pitched three innings, with two walks and three errors. The Royals had 12 hits while the Pioneers had eight. No errors were made.

    The Royals traveled to take on Holdingford in a close game Thursday, May 16, losing 11-10. Allie Nelson, Libby Yourczek, and Maddison Albright each had two runs batted in. Zimny pitched two innings, throwing one strikeout. Alise Schoenrock pitched one inning, allowing one walk and two errors. The Royals had 25 hits while Holdingford made 16. Neither team made an error.

    Pierz beats Milaca and Osakis in Sections

    The Pierz Pioneers softball team won the first two rounds of the Section 6AA Tournament, including its 11-3 victory against Milaca at River’s Edge Park in Waite Park Wednesday, May 22. The Pioneers’ Sadlovsky had four runs batted in and hit a home run. Schommer pitched over four innings, throwing three strikeouts. The Pioneers had 11 hits and one error while Milaca had four hits and two errors.

    The Pioneers beat Osakis at home in the first round of sections, Monday, May 20th. The Pioneers won 10-0 and it marked Pioneers Head Coach Matthew Poepping’s 150th career win. Sadlovsky went 3-4 at the plate, with two runs batted in. Lizz Gross went 2-4 and stole two bases.

    The Pioneers upset the Royalton Royals in its last home game of the regular season, winning 9-7. Lizz Gross also went 2-4 in the game, with two stolen bases. Otte had two runs batted in. The Pioneers had 10 hits and no errors. Osakis had two errors and three hits.
