In Week 5 of our 14-week Striper Migration Report series, OTW’s Assistant Editor, Matt Haeffner, checks in with Captain Brian Williams of Badfish Charters in Ocean City, NJ and Peter Jenkins, owner of The Saltwater Edge in Middletown, RI. Brian and Matt discuss where to begin the search for those larger migratory bass, how to target stripers on silversides and cinder worms, and the importance in being observative and stealthy while hunting for backwater stripers. Then, Peter and Matt run through the spring forage base of Rhode Island stripers, how to approach the cinder worm “hatch” and, looking ahead, knowing when to call it quits in the estuaries and salt ponds to find bigger bass in bigger water.
Ocean City Students in Bus Fire Honored for Bravery
Ocean City Intermediate School students and their bus driver escaped injury after their bus heading to Sea Isle City caught fire last week. On Thursday night, Ocean City Board of Education members and other officials commended the driver from Sheppard Bus Service, known as “Miss Linda,” and the students for their acts of “courage and bravery.”
Ocean City School Budget Adopted
The Ocean City Board of Education has adopted its budget for the 2024-25 school year with no increase in the tax rate. The bulk of the funding for the spending plan would come from $25.3 million in tax revenue, up from $24.9 million in local tax revenue the year before.

Another Jersey Shore town scrambles to fix its beach and taxpayers are on the hook
Avalon will once again shell out dollars for sand. A potent storm season devastated the Jersey Shore town this past winter — wiping away most of a $37.7 million federal sand replenishment project that dropped roughly 550,000 cubic yards of sand on the beach there and even more sand in Stone Harbor.
Chargers Split Weekend Games on Diamond
SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Spotswood High School varsity baseball team had a busy Saturday. Spotswood started off the day with a home game versus John F. Kennedy Memorial High School. Later in the day, the team headed down to South Jersey to play Highland Regional High School in the Coaches Versus Cancer Classic at Jermoe Avenue Park in Margate. The Chargers lost to JFK 4-1, ending a 12-game unbeaten streak. Spotswood bounced back against Highland Regional, winning 3-1. Luc Acquaviva had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning with the Chargers up 1-0 in the first game against JFK....
Parents could be fined $250 over Jersey Shore town’s summer curfew
North Wildwood is set to become the latest Jersey Shore town with a summer curfew for those under the age of 18, and it includes potential fines for parents of at least $250. There are exceptions for kids who are with their parents, traveling to or from work, or participating in a school, religious or recreational activity.

With a month to go before Memorial Day, contractors are working to wrap up spring road projects. Installation of new pipelines for the emergency sewer repair on West Avenue is complete from 9th Street to 14th Street, and temporary paving of that section is expected to be complete by the end of next week, weather permitting. The final section of that project from the 14th Street intersection to 16th Street will be complete by Memorial Day.
