JOHNSON CITY — Unicoi County used a consistent barrage of timely hits to roll to a 10-0 win over Rogersville City School on Monday (May 6) in the Class A Section 1 baseball semifinals at Boones Creek Elementary School. The loss ended the season for the Warriors.

“I can’t put into words how hard this team has worked,” said RCS head coach Matt Price. “To make it this far with this team has been an incredible journey. They’ve given 100% effort 100% of the time.”

The Warriors finished the season with a 14-8 mark and reached the sectional semifinals for the first time in school history. Unicoi County, which played on to defend its sectional title, is looking for its second straight trip to the Class A state tournament.

The Blue Devils used a walk, a hit batter, a single and two doubles to jump out to a 3-0 lead after an inning. They added a fourth run in the second with an RBI double by Tanner White.

RCS loaded the bases in the top of the third, but the Blue Devils turned an inning-ending double play to snuff out the threat. The Blue Devils went on to add three in the fourth and three in the fifth to invoke the run rule (10-run lead after five innings) and end the game.

The Warriors stranded six baserunners in the game, two in the first and third and one each in the second and fourth.

Unicoi outhit RCS 9-5 in the game. Teegan LeRoy went 2 for 3 to lead RCS. Conner Lyons, Cade Putnal and Mason McAnally each had one hit.

Putnal took the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs on seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Aiden Ryans pitched an inning in relief, giving up three runs on two hits with two walks.

White picked up the win for Unicoi. He scattered five hits across five scoreless innings without a walk and struck out eight. White also led the Blue Devils at the plate, with three doubles and two RBIs.
