Manhattan Blanks Liberal
For the second consecutive season, the Liberal girls soccer season ended at Manhattan. The seven seed Manhattan Indians blanked the 10 seed Liberal Redskins 5-0 Tuesday night in Manhattan. It was 3-0 at the half. Manhattan is 11-5-1 and Liberal finishes 8-7-2.
City Commission Agrees to Solar Improvements
The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening and recognized Alicia Hidalgo as a Master Municipal Clerk. Commissioners approved authorizing solar energy generation improvements and provided for the payment of the costs at the Police Department, Recreation Center, Wastewater Treatment Plant, and City Hall. Commissioners designated $800,000 from the Streets, Drainage, and Other Capital Improvements portion of the One Cent Sales Tax to get the project underway.

Liberal’s Brooklyn Quint has won a state bowling award. Here is the announcement from the Kansas State Bowling Proprietors Association. We would like to congratulate Brooklyn Quint. Brooklyn is our 2024 Sandra Butcher Memorial Scholarship winner. Brooklyn will receive a $2000.00 scholarship. Forgan Senior Wins John Deere Scholarship
Forgan senior, Jacob Taylor, earned the John Deere Ag Tech Progam Scholarship through Keating Tractor & Equipment. A scholarship worth over $35,000 for a 2-year associate degree which includes general education courses as well as John Deere exclusive classroom training courses in the areas of Engines, Fuel Systems, Transmissions, Electrical, Hydraulic, and Precision Ag Technology.
USD 480 Board Approves LED Lighting at Redskin Field and East Campus.
In a Special USD 480 Board meeting Monday morning, the Board of Education approved the conversion of lighting to LED at Redskin Field in the amount of $239,000. The Board also approved the purchase and installation of sports field lighting at East Campus Field in the amount of $255,000.
