‘Time for spring cleaning’: Smith County residents can discard bulky items for free soon

SMITH COUNTY, Texas ( KETK ) – During the entire month of April, Smith County residents will be able to take one truck-load of bulky items to the landfill for free with a voucher.

As part of the Smith Countywide Cleanup, the environmental crimes unit and commissioners court are offering one voucher per resident to take items to the Greenwood Farms Landfill at no charge.

“It’s that time of year again, time for spring cleaning,” Environmental Crimes Deputy Tommy Goodman said. “We sure would like as many Smith County citizens to participate in this as possible.”

Vouchers can be picked up in person by Smith County residents at the following locations:

  • Precinct 1: 308 E. Ferguson in Tyler
  • Precinct 2: 15405 Highway 155 South in Noonday
  • Precinct 3: 313 E. Duval Street in Troup
  • Precinct 4: 14152 Highway 155 North in Winona
  • Precinct 5: 2616 S. Main Street in Lindale

The vouchers can be used beginning April 1 through May 4. People can only discard one mattress for free with the voucher. Additional mattresses will cost $50 at the landfill, a release said.

Items that will not be accepted include batteries, hazardous waste, wet paint, tires, televisions, computers and refrigerators.
