    Giants, Titans strong at Two Harbors

    TWO HARBORS—Area track and field teams came with solid days on Tuesday at the Two Harbors invite, with Mesabi East and Greenway/Nahwauk-Keewatin putting both standing out.

    The Giant boys finished first with 136 points while the Titans were second on 98 points. Mountain Iron-Buhl was ninth (28).

    On the girls’ side, GNK finished second with 113 points while Mesabi East was third (80). The Rangers finished seventh (41).

    The Mesabi East boys came away with seven event wins on the day, including a 100 meter win from Ethan Murray (11.81), a 200 meter win from Evan James (23.39) along with a victory for Cooper Wippler in the high jump (five feet, 10 inches) and Kaden Baribeau in the triple jump (37 feet, one-half inch).

    The Giants also dominated the relays. The 4x100 team of Lincoln LaVelley, James, Ethan Jacobson and Murray won with a time of 45.89. Jacobson, Carter Steele, James and Murray won the 4x200 (1:36.06) and Alex Leete, Riley Ronning, Connor Feldt and Carson Slattery won the 4x800 relay (9:16.86).

    Slattery picked up a second place finish in the 800 meter (2:10.63) and Wippler was second in the triple jump (36 feet, 8.75 inches). Third place finishes for the Giants were Cole Layman in the 400 (56.10), Feldt in the 1600 (4:52.13) and Baribeau in the long jump (17 feet, 8.25 inches). The 4x400 relay team of Kasen Hill, Sean Moehlenbrock, LaVelley and Layman also took third (3:53.48).

    The Titan boys picked up four wins, including two from Gage Roberts. Roberts captured both hurdle events, winning the 110s with a time of 17.93 and the 300s with a time of 43.46. John Duffy was first in the long jump (20 feet, 1.50 inches).

    The GNK 4x400 relay team of Preston Smith, Roberts, Jeremy Huff-Metso and Duffy also took first (3:43.16).

    Runner-up finishes for the Titans include Greyson Chance in the 100 meters (12.14), Dufy in the high jump (five feet, eight inches) and the 4x800 relay team of Maxwell Gangl, Aiden Williamson, Brendan Hendricks and Hunter Milstead (9:44.17).

    The Mountain Iron-Buhl boys’ team was led by Finley Ratliff, who took third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.01. Jarron Alto was third in the shot put with a heave of 37 feet, 10.50 inches. The 4x100 relay team of Ratliff, Caleb Bianci-Rossi, Landon Kniefel and Jeffrey Tanksley was third with a time of 49.76.

    On the girls side, GNK was led by two first-place finishes in Lola Champlin and Frankie Cuellar. Champlin won the 1600 with a time of 5:34.95 while Cuellar was tops in shot put with a throw of 29 feet, six inches.

    Second place finishes for the Titans include Champlin in the 3200 (12:23.74), Taylor Covier in the 1600 (5:39.67), Sydney Goss in the discus (95 feet, seven inches) and Layla Miskovich in the triple jump (31 feet, three inches).

    The quartet of Cuellar, Claire Clusiau, Miskovich and Jaci Rebrovich picked up two second place finishes in the relays, finishing the 4x100 with a time of 53.08 and the 4x200 at 1:56.78.

    Third place finishes for GNK include Covier in the 800 (2:36.49) and Clusiau in the long jump (15 feet, two inches).

    The Mesabi East girls team was led by a number of runner-up finishes, including Olivia Forsline in the 200 (28.81), Aubree Skelton in the 800 (2:36.12) and Paige Vandervort in the high jump (four feet, six inches). The 4x800 team of Elizabeth Niemi, Lilian Larson, Hannah Plese and Eliza Tennison took second as well, finishing with a time of 12:04.00.

    Chloe Green had the lone solo third place finish for Mesabi East, taking bronze in the triple jump with a distance of 30 feet, 9.50 inches.

    Three Mesabi East relays earned third place finishes as well with the 4x100 team(Mia Domiano, Skelton, Aubrie Takanen and Forsline) finishing with a time of 54.21, the 4x200 team (Finley Asuma, Mae Layman, Vandervort and Takanen), posting a time of 1:57.78 and the 4x400 team (Green, Skelton, Vandervort, Forsline) crossing the finish line with a time of 4:33.58.

    The MI-B girls had two third place finishes to lead their day. Sarah Moe took bronze in the 1600 meter run (6:00.78) and Addison Lobe was third-best in the 300 meter hurdles (56.69).

    Two Harbors was the girls’ team champion with a score of 133.5.
