    City of Tuscaloosa’s Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day set for June 1

    TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The City of Tuscaloosa is planning to have its 2024 Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day on Saturday.

    According to the city, items accepted will be neutralized and recycled into new products or safely disposed. The disposal day will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the city’s Public Safety Logisitics building on 3311 Reese Phifer Ave.

    Examples of household hazardous wastes are household cleaners, automotive fluids, paint thinner, herbicides, pool chemicals, batteries, antifreeze, pesticides, oil or gasoline, lightbulbs and lawn chemicals/fertilizers. Tires, medical waste and electronics are not allowed for disposal.

    Only Tuscaloosa County residents can participate in the free event. Waste will not be taken from commercial businesses and nonprofit organizations.

    Those dropping off waste will be in a contactless drive-through. City staff members will unload items from participants’ vehicles. Anyone with questions is asked to call Tuscaloosa 311.
