TUSCALOOSA, ALA. ( WIAT ) — On Thursday, the Fraternal Order of Police in Tuscaloosa honored officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The FOP paid tribute to fallen officers Garrett Crumby and Kennis Croom in front of the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse Thursday morning. Crumby is from Tuscaloosa but was serving with the Huntsville Police Department when he was shot and killed in 2003.  Croom, also from Tuscaloosa, was killed in 2002 serving as a Meridian Mississippi Police Officer.

Tuscaloosa Police Assistant Chief Sebo Sanders said it’s important to pay tribute to the men and women who serve and protect their community.

“It’s very important to pay tribute to our officers because most people in the community probably don’t know the risk that officers take every day to go out and protect and serve the city. So, we are honoring Kennis Croom and also Garrett Crumby from Huntsville, Alabama, that was once an officer here in Tuscaloosa”.

Mayor Walt Maddox was the guest speaker and members of the Tuscaloosa Police honor guard participated in the ceremony.
