The 2024 high school tennis season is nearing its end.
Sectional tournaments went from April 15-18, with the top two teams from each sectional tournament automatically qualifying for the state tournaments. If their team did not finish in the top two at the sectionals meet, individuals can earn a bid to the state tournament if they won their individual position at line one singles or doubles.
Northridge boys and girls each won the Class 6A, Section 4 Tournament, while the Hillcrest boys and girls finished as runners-up. The Demopolis girls won the Class 4A-5A, Section 2 Tournament. On the boys side, Tuscaloosa Academy took the Class 1A-3A, Section 2 Tournament
The AHSAA high school tennis state tournament begins Monday and will go through Friday in Mobile.
Here are 14 tennis players from the Tuscaloosa area to watch in the state tournament:
Boys
Davis Shelton, American Christian Academy
Why: Shelton earned an individual bid to the state tournament after winning the Class 4A-5A, Section 2 line one singles championship. He went 9-1 throughout the regular season.
Griffin Armstrong, Hillcrest
Why: Armstrong is the Class 6A, Section 4 boys line one singles and doubles champion. The sophomore finished the regular season with a 32-14 record.
Jon Coleman Foster, Hillcrest
Why: The senior is the Class 6A, Section 4 boys line three singles and line one doubles champion. He finished the regular season with a 40-7 record.
Will Thom, Northridge
Why: The eighth grader's only Class 6A, Section 4 loss of the season came in the line one singles section tournament final. Thom and partner Blake Smith won the section tournament line two doubles championship.
Tommy Rowan, Northridge
Why: Rowan finished the regular season undefeated in Class 6A, Section 4. He won the section tournament line two singles championship and finished as runner-up with partner Paul Vise in the section tournament line one doubles championship.
Jonni Kneer, Tuscaloosa Academy
Why: Kneer finished the regular season undefeated and was the Class 1A-3A Section 2 line one singles and doubles champion.
Holman Bearden, Tuscaloosa Academy
Why: Bearden finished the regular season undefeated as was the Class 1A-3A Section 2 line two singles champion and line one doubles champion.

Girls
Millie Hill, Demopolis
Why: Hill went 11-3 throughout the regular season and finished as the Class 4A-5A, Section 2 line one singles runner-up. She also finished as a line one doubles runner-up in the section tournament.
Anna Rene Lewis, Demopolis
Why: The senior went 12-1 through the regular season and finished as the Class 4A-5A, Section 2 line three singles and doubles champion at the section tournament.
Kameryn Browne, Hillcrest
Why: The senior finished the regular season with a 23-18 record and is the Class 6A, Section 4 line one singles champion. She also finished as runner-up in line two doubles at the section tournament.
Alice Rowley, Northridge
Why: Rowley finished as the Class 6A, Section 4 line one singles runner-up but won the line one doubles at the section tournament with partner Carter Thomason. She is also a member of the Alabama North/South All-Star team.
Carter Thomason, Northridge
Why: Thomason finished the regular season undefeated in Class 6A, Section 4 play. She won the section tournament line one doubles championship with Alice Rowley and finished as the line two singles champion. She is also a member of the Alabama North/South All-Star team.
Savannah Dockery, Sipsey Valley
Why: Dockery won the Class 4A-5A, Section 2 line one doubles tournament with partner Morgan Dockery to earn a bid to the state tournament.
Morgan Dockery, Sipsey Valley
Why: Morgan, alongside Savannah Dockery, won the Class 4A-5A, Section 2 line one doubles tournament to earn a bid to the state tournament.
