Later this summer, patrons will have one more restaurant to choose from at Tualatin’s Bridgeport Village shopping complex as Kona Grill opens not only its first Oregon location, but the only one on the West Coast to date.

Currently under construction, the grill, which has a presence in 27 other locations across the nation, will feature American classic favorites, along with seafood (including sushi and sashimi), all served in an upscale/casual atmosphere.

Plans are to not only sell higher-end burgers like its Steakhouse Burger but also fish fare ranging from Jalapeno Yellowtail Sashimi to Seared Sea Bass Sliders. Restaurant officials promise other made-from-scratch food and crafted cocktails such as an Electric Lemonade (Three Olives raspberry vodka, Bols Blue Curaçao, lemon and soda) and a Kona Mai Tai (Mount Gay Eclipse Rum, Bols Amaretto, lime and bitters.)

“We are thrilled to expand our successful grill concept westward and introduce patrons of Bridgeport Village to our incomparable, upscale dining experience,” Manny Hilario, president and CEO of The ONE Group Hospitality, said in a statement. “As a premier lifestyle center, Bridgeport Village is (a) natural choice for our strategic entry to the West Coast market, and we look forward to serving as a vibrant part of the community through our dedication to creating exceptional moments and meals.”

Plans for the new restaurant include covered open-air seating along the streetside as well as seating on the restaurant’s roof.

“This latest addition of Kona Grill brings a unique combination of flavorful food and drink, elegant design, and a dynamic and energetic environment that enables patrons to create memorable experiences around the table. It is a true destination and complements our full array of dining options, from special occasion to quick and casual,” said Erika Plummer, vice president of leasing for CenterCal Properties.

Headquartered in Denver, those looking for the next closest Kona Grill will have to travel to Boise, Idaho.

At the same time, Bridgeport Village is in the process of wrapping up a multi-million-dollar remodel and renovation project, which they refer to as a “transformative refresh.” The shopping complex is known for its focus on both national-brand stores as well first-to-market retailers. The 500,000-square-foot complex is owned by CenterCal Properties, headquartered in El Segundo, California.

Kona Grill will join two other restaurants that opened at Bridgeport Village last year.

Last summer, Tanaka, which features Japanese comfort food and artisanal baking, opened its second restaurant in the Portland-metro area. Tanaka already has a Portland address at Southwest 12th Avenue and Morrison Street.

A few months later, Shake Shack opened to enthusiastic crowds .

The popular eatery, known for its Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches and hand-spun milkshakes, already has locations in Portland and in Beaverton’s Cedar Hills Crossing shopping center.
