The annual local Bible Reading Marathon began at 8 a.m. Monday at the gazebo on the square in downtown Troy. The Bible has been read continuously by individuals, families, churches and groups. The 2024 Bible Reading Marathon will close at noon today for Pike County’s National Day of Prayer program at the gazebo.

Linda Adams, Salem Troy Baptist Association, said the Bible Reading Marathon was a blessing for those who read and those listened.

“This was our 18 th year for the Bible Reading Marathon and are blessed to have had people of all ages read and others to sit quietly and listen to God’s Word being read,” Adams said. “This year, we had a special blessing as four young men from Mexico read God’s Word in Spanish.”

Adams said God’s Word is read around the world in many different language.

“And, as the Bible says, God’s word never comes back void no matter where it is read.”

At 12 o’clock, noon, today, the National Day of Prayer will begin at the Gazebo. The Rev. Ross Langford, First Baptist Church, Troy will bring a message of hope for peace and understanding here in Pike County, in all America and around the world. Special music will be presented by Shelia Jackson.

Everyone is invited to come and listen in togetherness as God’s Word is read aloud and to pray for all those here at home and those around the world.
