B9 Sub-District Softball Bracket Released
McCook Bison Softball Team will participate in the B9-Sub-District Tournament on Monday in Kearney at Patriot Park. McCook is the #2 seed and will take on #3 seed HWY 6 (Holdrege, Adams Central, Minden Coop) at 4:45pm following the #1 seed Kearney Catholic vs #4 seed Lexington at 3pm. Lady Bronco volleyball has hectic schedule this week
The volleyball team traveled to Paxton for a four team tournament Sept. 19 and split the night winning one and losing one. The Broncos won over Potter-Dix (9-8) in the first match with scores of 25-15 and 25-19. That paired them with the host team Paxton Tigers (12-3). The Broncos struggled against the Tigers going down in two sets, 16-25 and 19-25. This brought the Lady Broncos record to 6-8.
Broncos drop close game to Southwest Roughriders on the gridiron
In a game that was closer than the score may look, Wauneta-Palisade came up on the short end of the contest 25-37. The Broncos scored first in the opening quarter with a 40 yard strike from Nathan Blackman to Blake Nickerson, but the extra point attempt by Gabe McCrumb failed leaving the Broncos leading 6-0.

Southwest Roughriders Gallop Past Broncos
The Southwest Roughriders traveled to Wauneta to take on the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos in a district contest on Friday night. Wauneta-Palisade would score the first touchdown of the night to start the game with a 40-yard touchdown pass to take the early lead before Southwest would answer with two consecutive scores before Wauneta-Palisade would answer again. Back and forth the game would go until a safety accord to give Southwest a ten-point lead which would then eventually lead to a victory for Southwest 37-25. Southwest improves to 3-1 on the year and Wauneta-Palisade slides to 1-3. Southwest will return to action next Friday hosting Arthur County and Wauenta-Palisade will travel to Wallace on Thursday in a game carried on Coyote Country 105.3.
Flu Shots and COVID-19 Boosters
Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) encourages residents to get their flu shots and COVID-19 booster shots to protect against respiratory illnesses this winter. Cases of COVID-19 were minimal in the health district over the summer, with an average of 2 cases per week. SWNPHD saw a small bump in case numbers at the end of summer and expects another wave of widespread infections during the fall and winter.

McCOOK – There was not a coach on the Red Raiders’ sideline Friday night in McCook that was born the last time Sidney defeated the Bison in a football game. The anticipated matchup at Weiland Field had Sidney looking to break a 53-year losing streak that dated back to 1970. The game turned out to be a historic one for the Red Raiders as they came out on top with a resounding 28-0 victory.

IVFD, Search and Rescue respond to calls in the area
The Imperial Volunteer Fire Department recently responded to two calls in five days, including a call for assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol. Friday morning the Imperial Search and Rescue dive team was called in by Nebraska Game and Parks Conservation Officer Sophie Gobber and the Nebraska State Patrol at the scene of a missing person and boat at Swanson Reservoir west of Trenton.
