Tremont is looking for a new head boys basketball coach.
Troy Schmidt announced on social media Tuesday night he's stepping down as the Turks coach, taking on the roles as the school's athletics director and dean of students for the 2024-25 school year. These moves are pending approval at the May 9 school board meeting.

"It is not an easy move for me," Schmidt wrote, "but a new challenge that I’m excited about.
"Thanks to my family for being the most supportive and understanding family a coach could ask for. Thanks to my players current and former. Thanks to my assistant coaches for making our program the success it is. Thanks to the administration and staff for all they have done."
In 13 seasons on the Tremont sidelines, Schmidt went 235-136 (.633) and won four Class 2A regional championships. His 2017 and 2019 teams advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, marking the program's furthest advancement since making the 2003 Class A Elite Eight.
Schmidt, who was a boys assistant coach for 11 years before taking over for the 2011-12 season, will remain the Tremont golf coach, entering his 25th season this upcoming fall.

"Thanks to Flocknation," he wrote, referencing the Tremont fan base. "Thanks to the parents and community. I will continue to be a Turk and pledge my support to the program, just in a different role. I’m a firm believer in process and this move is the next step in mine."
