FIRST ALERT: Watching for more severe storms on Labor Day
FIRST ALERT MONDAY (LABOR DAY): Into mid-morning, our region will get a break from the rain, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures near 70. Then between early afternoon and late evening, showers and thunderstorms will sweep across our region, bringing heavy rain and some lightning. Our entire region is under a Level 1 (Marginal) risk for severe weather. That means we have the potential to see an isolated severe thunderstorm. If severe weather develops, the greatest threats are ping pong ball-sized hail and gusts up to 60 mph. Heavy rain is also possible, however, which may bring some impacts. Leftover showers and storms will die down or exit our region Monday night, leaving at least 1″ of rain in some areas. Keep the VNL First Alert Weather App handy as we track the storms.

Overnight, we’re looking at scattered clouds, but barring an isolated shower, most of our region will stay dry. Temperatures will drop into the 60s late overnight, so we’re looking at a warm Sunday morning.

Pattern change brings rain & thunderstorms this weekend
FRIDAY - WEEKEND: On Friday, a breezy southeasterly wind will lift more warm air our way, leading to highs in the 80s once again. Towards the evening hours, a few showers and thundershowers will move into our region. The unsettled weather pattern will continue through the weekend, though it won’t be rainy all weekend. This is all due to an upper-level ridge, and several disturbances riding up around the ridge right into our region. Keep the VNL First Alert Weather App handy as we track the showers and thundershowers. All the while, expect partly cloudy skies, lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s over the weekend.

WEDNESDAY - THURSDAY: Leftover showers in NW MN will die down overnight, leaving clearing skies by Wednesday morning. Thereafter, the middle of the workweek will be the “mildest” days of the week, as cool Canadian air will push into the Northern Plains.
