Jackson airport takeover lawsuit isn’t stopping terminal plans, CEO says
The fight over who controls Jackson’s airport isn’t stopping plans to overhaul its terminal, airport officials say. Jackson Municipal Airport Authority CEO Rosa Beckett said Monday, Oct. 26, that the authority can continue moving the project forward while litigation over a state effort to replace the current airport authority remains unresolved. “Right now, there isn't a constraint with us moving forward because we have to deliver the service to the community regardless of the litigation,” Beckett said. Beckett's comments came after airport commissioners selected a development team to lead a proposed overhaul of Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport. The preliminary plan includes a new departure concourse, a single security checkpoint and demolition of the west concourse. The project is moving into design and negotiations. A total construction price and a final financing plan have not been established. Asked whether the takeover case could disrupt those plans, Beckett said the airport already continues operating under its existing governance while the lawsuit is active. “So we continue to have to operate the airport and provide services to the community,” Beckett said. “And so we have that autonomy to do that, and we've been doing that for the past 10 years.” Understanding Jackson's

Inside Tom Rice's new Fondren butcher shop concept
Entrepreneur Tom Rice said a new butcher shop planned for Jackson's Fondren district is moving closer to opening, with hopes of welcoming customers before the holiday season. Rice, who last year opened Louise's Piano Bar and Jazz Club in Fondren and announced plans this summer for a neighborhood butcher shop, provided an update Wednesday, Oct. 21, during the Fondren Business Improvement District Annual Meeting at the Capri Theater. The shop will combine a traditional butcher counter with an expanded charcuterie operation tied to Louise's. "We're really just trying to do good beef," Rice told the audience. "We're not trying to do anything fancy here." Rice said the business is being designed to reflect the history of Fondren's 1946 shopping center, with vintage-style metal finishes and real neon signage intended to match other historic features in the neighborhood. The store plans to offer prime-grade beef, fresh-cut meats prepared by certified butchers and special-order items for holidays and events. Rice said he hopes to keep prices competitive with larger retailers while offering higher-quality products. The shop also plans to receive seafood deliveries, including oysters, and offer customers the ability to special order cuts of meat. "We're really just trying to avoid, in
