A Delightful New Coffee Shop Near the Amite River
Denizens in my (A&E Editor Jacqueline DeRobertis-Braun’s) neck of the woods—the very edge of East Baton Rouge Parish pushing right up against the Amite River—have long bemoaned the lack of a cozy independent coffee shop nearby to satisfy our caffeine cravings. Enter Café Verdino, a very green, very vibe-y coffee shop nestled in a shopping center along Jones Creek Road that opened its doors this summer. The aesthetics are mid-century modern meets the Mediterranean, populated with sensible (green) cushioned chairs and citrus-forward artwork and decor; outside there are umbrellas and tables for guests to enjoy as the weather cools. I had the pleasure of visiting the café for my first official excursion postpartum (sans my third baby), during which I enjoyed a perfectly foamed cappuccino and noshed on a feta veggie tartine (fresh, bright, and gorgeously plated). It was so good that I brought my two-year-old the next week on a mother-daughter date for a generously sized chocolate muffin (hers) and a delightfully spiced Autumn Breeze (mine, Café Verdino's take on a brown sugar shaken espresso topped with chai cold foam). Perfectly timed for the season of hot beverages, the antidote to bland commercial coffee shops is here. cafeverdino.com.
