East Brunswick: Water Main Break Causes Sinkhole on Louise Drive
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick Police Department has announced that there is a water main break on Louise Drive near Riva Avenue. Motorists are advised to expect delays on Riva Avenue. East Brunswick Water Utility workers onsite told TAPinto East Brunswick that the aging water main burst this afternoon, causing a crater-like sinkhole near the intersection of Riva and Louise. Water quickly moved the sandy soil out of the ground, leaving only the relatively thin layer of blacktop behind. Workers were using a backhoe to clear away debris at the location. PSE&G also arrived at the scene. Plan an alternate route, advise police. The East Brunswick Water Utility Department will be making repairs to the water main. There will be service interruptions and possible water quality issues in the area for an undetermined amount of time. Some Louise Drive and nearby Riva Avenue residents will experience water shutoffs until the water main is repaired. In November, 2022, a water main break occurred on Ryders Lane in the township, causing traffic problems and interrupting local water service. Any questions or concerns can be forwarded to the Water Filtration Plant by calling 732-390-6793.
