Publix expands SW Florida real estate footprint with Estero purchase
Publix has made another big real estate investment in Southwest Florida. The grocery chain has purchased the Shoppes at Verdana Village in Estero, where it's the anchor tenant. The deal included two developed outparcels. The purchase price: $26 million (confirmed by the state documentary stamp taxes paid in the transaction), said Paige Rausch, a commercial real estate and land analyst at Aslan Realty Advisors in Fort Myers. “This isn’t just a retail transaction — it’s a massive vote of confidence in where Southwest Florida’s population and economic center of gravity is moving," she said. "When Publix aggressively buys up the underlying dirt under its flagship locations rather than leasing, they are locking down long-term dominance along critical arterial routes." The shopping center, located at the southeast corner of Verdana Village Boulevard and Corkscrew Road, is about six miles east of Interstate 75. The eastern Lee County corridor is booming.
