School board rejects Twin Ridge Elementary design proposals due to lack of funds
The Frederick County Board of Education on Wednesday rejected all proposals for designing the limited renovation of Twin Ridge Elementary School due to a lack of funding for the project from either the county or the state. Twin Ridge Elementary in Mount Airy was originally built in 1992 and has had no renovations or additions since. The school currently has a state-rated capacity of 681 students and serves grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. In 2023, a facility and program assessment was conducted on the school, according to a fact sheet on the project. Design and permitting for a limited renovation were anticipated to start this July based on available funding. Eight companies had submitted design build services proposals. However, FCPS wasn’t allocated any funding for fiscal year 2025 from Frederick County or the state and cannot move forward with the project now, according to FCPS Assistant Purchasing Manager Kim Miskell. “Hopefully, next year, we’ll get funding, and we can go back out to rebid,” she said to the school board during its meeting on Wednesday.
