$80M Boulevard Place set to rise in downtown OKC after years of delays

A tower crane is set to once again appear in the downtown Oklahoma City skyline as construction ramps up on the long-delayed $80 million Boulevard Place immediately east of the Omni Hotel. The seven-story, 262-unit Boulevard Place is the tallest downtown housing built from scratch since the 1966 opening of the 24-story Regency Tower at 333 NW 5th St. Boulevard Place is being built at the southeast corner of E.K. Gaylord Boulevard and Oklahoma City Boulevard and is at the gateway to the stadium district being built to the east. The owners of the Oklahoma City Thunder, meanwhile, have shown an interest in developing the current Paycom Center block that is north of Boulevard Place once Continental Coliseum is complete. All of that development provides little wiggle room for construction, said John Semtner, project engineer with Tradesman Architectural Studios. "This project is a very tight and difficult site," Semtner said. "To see this rise up out of the ground is a very exciting moment in construction." Democratic wave could bring changes to Oklahoma County government

Oklahoma County government could have a distinctly different feel in a few months after Democrats swept general election races. Voters flipped the Board of Oklahoma County Commissioners in an election that ended Republican Party rule, which had held since the 1970s. Plus, if freshly elected Democrats vote as a bloc, the Nov. 3 election will lead to a shift in the balance of power on the usually nonpartisan County Budget Board, where personalities often dictate action more than partisan politics. Come Jan. 4, 2027, the commissioners' board will have a 2-1 Democratic majority, with Jennifer Mayo, 35, representing District 3 , which has not been held by a Democrat since 1981. She will join Democratic Commissioner Jason Lowe of District 1 and District 2's Brian Maughan , who will be the lone Republican. Also on Jan. 4, Democratic Assessor-elect John Gibbons will take office after beating incumbent Larry Stein. Democratic Treasurer-elect Jessica Thompson , 37, who won that open seat, will not take office until July, the start of the 2027-28 fiscal year. Former Oklahoma legislative aide put on probation for role in conspiracy

A former longtime legislative aide at the state Capitol has been put on probation for conspiring in 2025 with then-state Rep. Ajay Pittman to deceive the Oklahoma Ethics Commission with a falsified check. Trena Byas, 57, of Del City, pleaded guilty Oct. 28 to conspiracy to commit a felony, second-degree forgery and violating the state Computer Crimes Act. Under a plea deal, she was put on probation for three years. She also was ordered to pay a $150 judicial assessment, court costs and other fees. Her attorney, Malcolm Savage, said on Nov. 6 she would have no comment. More: State Rep. Ajay Pittman resigns and pleads guilty to three felonies Pittman and Byas were charged with conspiracy, second-degree forgery and the computer crime on Jan. 28 in Oklahoma County District Court. Pittman, D-Oklahoma City, pleaded guilty to all three felonies the same day and resigned from office. Under a plea deal, she was put on probation for seven years. Pittman also is making restitution under the deal, with the funds going to a charity. She was allowed in April to pay $7,858 to the Langston University Foundation in installments.
