The Downtown Maryville Alliance hosted its annual Uncorked Experience Thursday, April 26, a little early this year. Usually held in the fall, the event — which features wine tasting, auctions and live music — is the alliance's marquee fundraiser.
Alcoa approves additional Hall Road development plans
Changes are coming to the intersection of North Hall Road and West Bessemer Street. After gaining approval from the Alcoa Planning Commission last week, Blackhorse Pub and Brewery owners are set to install additions to the beer garden on the pub grounds with a mixed-use development nearby. The proposed three-story building as drawn will provide a mix of residential and commercial use and will face North Hall Road to the south of the pub. Four consecutive months in the black have left Blount Memorial Hospital’s leaders hopeful that the fiscal year closes on a positive financial note and makes some space for expansion. Flagging on Cusick next month
The Tennessee Department of Transportation has informed Alcoa Development Services of upcoming intermittent flagging operations on Cusick Road for May. Cusick Road between Wright Road and Singleton Station will have workers flagging the area from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout May as part of the Alcoa Highway Relocation Project. Expect lane closures and delays in the area. Alcoa is warning motorists to use caution when driving in the area as workers will be present, and to allow additional travel time when using this route. Water outage caused by digging
Contractors digging off East Lamar Alexander Parkway hit a water main Wednesday afternoon, April 24, affecting water supply to customers in the area of Heritage High School. Staff at South Blount Utility told The Daily Times that workers were on their way to repair the leak, which was caused by someone putting in a sign, at about 2:30 p.m. An estimated number of customers affected was not readily available.
Townsend drafting new hotel, campground definitions
Townsend could change its legal definitions of hotels and campgrounds amid public displeasure at the approval of a proposed hotel development in city limits. Blount County gas prices hovered over the state average for the second week in a row, as prices fell across the nation. As of Monday, April 22, the gas price average in the county was $3.30 per gallon. According to a release from AAA — The Auto Club Group, gas prices fell an average of 4 cents per gallon in Tennessee last week. The state gas price average is now $3.34, which is 9 cents less than a year ago. ...
Big Springs Road, South Old Glory Road closing Monday
The Blount County Highway Department will close parts of Big Springs Road and South Old Glory Road to enable resurfacing work today, April 22.
