U.S. News rates Maryville High School No. 11 in Tennessee

New ratings from U.S. News & World Report put Maryville High School as No. 11 among 462 public high schools in Tennessee.

All local high schools ranked among the Top 10 in the Knoxville metropolitan area, in the media company’s report published online this week.

MHS is No. 2 in the Knoxville metropolitan area, behind Knox County’s L&N STEM Academy, which ranked No. 9 in the state.

Toping the list for Tennessee was Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, with others in the Top 10 located in Nashville, Brentwood, Franklin and Chattanooga. Farragut High School came in at No. 14 in the state.

Nationally, MHS was ranked 872 among public high schools.

Alcoa High School came in at No. 30 in the state, No. 2,440 nationally.

Blount County’s William Blount High School came in at No. 70 in the state, and Heritage High School was No. 91.

In the ratings for the Knoxville area, Alcoa was No. 5, just behind Oak Ridge High School. William Blount was No. 8 and Heritage No. 10 among the 32 public high schools that U.S. News ranked in the metropolitan area.

Nearly a third of the ranking data was based on the number of students taking and making qualifying scores on Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exams. Forty percent of the ranking is based on state assessments. Three categories each accounted for 10% of the scoring: graduation rates, the breadth of the college curriculum offered and the performance of Black, Hispanic and low-income students.
