MILLER COUNTY, Ark. ( KTAL/KMSS )—In honor of National Police Week, the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department and the Miller County Sheriff’s Office held a memorial service for fallen officers.

The names of those who lost their lives in the line of duty were read aloud at the ceremony.

“We have 14 total. So we have 11 from Miller County and then three from the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department,” says Kristen Schultz with the Texarkana, AR Police Department.

They want to ensure that even though nearly a century has passed for some, their sacrifice has not been forgotten.

“All the officers mentioned today were from 1925 to 2018. Those are all of our fallen officers,” says Officer Schultz.

They hope to remind the community of the risks these men and women in uniform take every day to keep everyone safe.

“These men and women go out every single day and they put on a badge to serve you. They never know what’s going to be behind one door to the next and they’re constantly, constantly sacrificing themselves to make the community safer.” says Tamara Spicer with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office
