TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– The Swope Art Museum is one step closer to reaching its $6 million capital campaign fundraising goal.

During Sunday’s Marilyn Wheeler Pendergast Spring Dinner, the organization announced it received a $150,000 grant from the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. When matched, this will help the museum finish up its “Great Art for All” campaign.

The money will help provide a number of additions for the museum. This includes new heating, air conditioning and humidity control, increased accessibility options and more storage.

“This is exactly what our community needs to reach our goal and ensure the Swope’s priceless collection is preserved and protected,” Brad Balch, the chair of the campaign, said in a press release.

During the dinner, Laney Meis won the Marilyn Wheeler Pendergast Award for Outstanding Dedication, and Balch won the Richard J. Shagley Presidential Service Award.
