TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — More progress is being made in the effort to upgrade the Indiana Theater in Terre Haute.

As previously reported, businessman Greg Gibson donated the theater to the Vigo County Capital Improvement Board. On Wednesday morning, the board discussed some upgrades that will be happening to the building.

Vigo County Commissioner and President of the Vigo County Capital Improvement Board Chris Switzer said the board is planning to solicit bids for a company to replace the roof on the theater’s canopy.

The theater’s current signage will also be taken down in the next few weeks. Switzer said the new sign will keep the current look but be more efficient.

“It’s good to know that the sign that’s going back up is identical to the same sign that’s up there now, except it has an LED messaging board instead of using the old antiquated-style letters that we have to physically get up there, remove and then install again,” Switzer explained.

The board also heard updates on the Larry Bird Museum, which Switzer said is coming along well and should have an opening date very soon.
