Temple, TX (FOX 44) – Big-time cleanup in Bell County is underway after severe storms ripped through the area. In Temple, streets are lined with debris, trees have been uprooted and power lines are down–and one man is lucky to be alive after his car was crushed by a gas station canopy.

Joey Allen stopped at the Exxon gas station on the corner of Thornton Ln. and Oakdale Drive to avoid possible hail damage to his car. Instead, his car was crushed by the gas station’s canopy.

“I thought it was maybe a trash can at first, but no, my car was being crushed. I was scared for my life,” says Allen.

Miraculously, Allen survived with no scratches. This is because his car’s driver’s seat is on the right side–which is unusual. After all, car’s driver’s seat is typically on the left side.

“I just don’t know what I’m going to do now, with insurance and everything and all the damage. It’s going to be hard,” he says.
