ACT scores rise in Marietta, decrease in Cobb
ACT results released Friday showed Marietta High School increased its average score, and Cobb County’s scores dipped slightly from 2025. The average ACT score at Marietta High School bumped up by 0.2 points. The average score at Cobb decreased by 0.7 points. Both districts outperformed the state and national average. The ACT is one of the most widely-used exams for college admissions. It is scored by subject (English, mathematics, reading and science) and with an average composite score. The maximum score is 36. ACT has made the science section optional. Science averages represent only students who took that section. Science is no longer included in the composite score as of last September. All scores are based on 2026 high school graduates who took the ACT at any point during their sophomore, junior, or senior years in high school, according to the Georgia Department of Education. Marietta High School had an average composite score of 22.4, up from last year’s average of 22.2. The Cobb County School District had an average composite score of 23.0, down from 23.7 in 2025. The state and national averages both slipped. Georgia recorded an average score of 20.9, down by 0.5 points from 21.4. The

North Cobb, Walton meet for playoff positioning
North Cobb and Walton may need some help to get back into the Region 5AAAAAAA championship race. But when the two teams meet Friday night, there will still be plenty at stake. With postseason positioning and the possibility of hosting a first-round playoff game hanging in the balance, both programs are focused on finishing the regular season strong, even as the Postseason Seeding Rating (PSR) adds uncertainty to the playoff picture. For Walton coach Daniel Brunner, the rankings are worth watching, but they aren't something he wants his players worrying about. "It's up in the air with the PSR," Brunner said. "It's not like in the past where if you're a No. 2 seed out of the region, you're going to automatically get to host." Brunner said he and his coaching staff have discussed the rankings, but the message to his players remains straightforward. "All we can do is try to go 1-0 each week as we finish up these last three games and let the PSR take care of itself," Brunner said. "It's definitely on my mind, and we've talked about it as a coaching staff, but really not trying to have the kids worrying about it." North Cobb
