The City of Teague Board of Aldermen met in a special called meeting on Thursday, May 9, to declare the results of the canvass for the election returns of the general election of May 4,.

All board of aldermen were present except for Bridget Gauntt and Mayor David Huffman.

James Monks defeated Jack (Butch) Hansel 111 votes - 77 votes in the election for the City of Teague Mayor.

Alderman Place 1 Ron Rasbeary and Alderman Place 3 Rhonda Jones ran unopposed.

They received 130 and 147 votes respectively.

Mayor James Monks, Alderman Place 1 Ron Rasbeary, and Alderman Place 3 Rhonda Jones were issued their certificates for their positions and were administered their Oaths of Office by Interim City Secretary DeWayne Philpott.

Gauntt was nominated and appointed as the Mayor Pro Tempore once again.

At the beginning of the meeting, Jackie Rasbeary read a two page letter to the board about the concerns she has with the city sewage during floods.

Her house flooded once again during the May 1 storms.

Her and her husband removed 70-80 gallons of sewage and water from their house.

She had addressed the board this past month as well when she and her husband had removed approximately 30 gallons of sewage and water from their home after a storm.

Rasbeary questioned the board on why the paperwork wasn’t being filed out in a timely manner by the City.

She is currently working with insurance to help with the issues of their flooded home.

Rasbeary told the board of aldermen that she hopes the city will help with the flooding of the raw sewage issues.

Alderman Place 2 Jerry Ballew, who was presiding over the beginning of the meeting, assured her the board would continue to look into the issue.
