TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — The investigation continues after two bicyclists were hit by a car in Taunton on Thursday , leaving a Seekonk man dead.

The family of 76-year-old Donald MacManus told 12 News he was an avid and very safe cyclist, noting that every year on Father’s Day, he would trek out to Cape Cod.

They added that he had dry, quick-witted humor and loved being a grandfather to his four grandchildren.

MacManus and a 72-year-old Attleboro man were riding their bikes down North Walker Street when they were hit by an oncoming car, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III.

Quinn said MacManus was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other bicyclist was brought to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car, a 62-year-old Mansfield man, stopped after the crash and is cooperating with the investigation. However, Quinn said he was cited for motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation.

The driver’s identity had not been released since he has not been criminally charged, Quinn said, adding that he has a right to a probable cause hearing.
