TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A suspect in a shooting near Armature Works in April was denied bond on Friday, while a second suspect was granted bond.

17-year-old Gabriel Catuy will remain detained until his trial. He is charged as an adult with second-degree attempted murder with a firearm and a possession of a firearm charge.

Jaimartez Young, 19, who was also arrested, pleaded not guilty . He also appeared in court on Friday. He was granted a $301,500 bond and the judge ordered him to wear an ankle monitor.

A group of juveniles got into an argument in a bathroom before gunshots were exchanged near Armature Works on April 9, according to court documents obtained by News Channel 8 on Tuesday.

Witnesses said one of the people involved said he was going to retaliate after having water thrown at him. The documents did not make clear which person threw the water, but in court, detectives said Catuy claims the water was thrown at him.

“He [Catuy] says he was using the bathroom and he comes out starts washing his hands and then someone hits him with water or a water bottle that sprayed water on him,” TPD Detective Alberto Burgos said. “He said that the water smelled so he assumed that that water was urine.”

Burgos said Catuy told him he and a few people exchanged words after that.

Later, Young was seen on video near Stones Throw with a gun. He fired multiple rounds at a person who was involved in the bathroom argument, according to an affidavit.

The person who was shot at was then handed a gun with an extended magazine by someone else in the group and returned fire, according to the affidavit.

“Is that Mr. Catuy with what appears to be an extended magazine on a gun firing it?” officials asked detectives in court to which the detective responded, “Yes.”

Several bystanders were hit by gunfire, including a pregnant woman who was having a meal with her husband and 8-month-old daughter . In total, three people were shot. All of them are expected to be OK.
