TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Video obtained by 8 On Your Side shows a Tampa police cruiser that was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident.

The crash happened on March 9 at the intersection of North Boulevard and River Heights Avenue.

Tampa police said there’s an active investigation into the incident, but didn’t provide any additional information.

8 On Your Side did ask police who was the officer behind the wheel, but the agency didn’t answer that question.

Jake Perrin was driving the vehicle that was hit by the police cruiser and said he’s glad a neighbor’s camera captured the incident.

“It just kind of really surprised me because I have a lot of respect for law enforcement,” Perrin said.

According to Perrin, the cruiser failed to stop at a stop sign before crashing into his car.

“The cop came out of nowhere, ran a stop sign, ran right into me and took off and never came back,” he said.

Perrin says he called the non-emergency police line to report the hit-and-run since his car sustained some damage.

He says the city’s insurance contacted him regarding repairs, but he also wants to see accountability as he claims the officer didn’t pull over to check on him and his passenger when the crash occurred.

“I didn’t mean to hit you, are you ok, can I call another officer here while I go to my scene.’ That would’ve made me feel a lot better about it,” he said. “That’s the most shocking part to me is that he didn’t even stop and went off like nothing ever happened.”
