Baseball Recap: Melrose triumphant thanks to a strong effort from Cy Draper
Melrose had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Magdalena Steers a 19-0 shutout on Wednesday. Melrose might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

Baseball Recap: Mike Cardonita can't quite lead Melrose over Logan
After a string of four wins, Melrose's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (11-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Logan apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.
2024 Fiber Fair At Bosque Redondo Memorial May 4
Visitors of all ages can connect to the history of Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner Historic Site during the Fiber Fair 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024. This interactive event includes live demonstrations and hands-on wool working activities using sheared wool from the site’s flock of Navajo Churro Sheep.

Grady put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 13-5 margin over the Melrose Buffaloes. Grady's offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.
New Space Fun Fact: Scientific Balloons
There is a Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility located at the Fort Sumner Municipal Airport in New Mexico. The balloons released by NASA are different from the weather balloons by the Albuquerque National Weather Service. The balloons are also often visible by the naked eye if you are in central New Mexico.

New Mexico State Police Crime Scene Team’s Expert Testimony Contributes To Guilty Verdict In Fort Sumner Double Homicide
On Oct. 2, 2022, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Crime Scene Team (CST) assisted DeBaca County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation of a double homicide at a residence in Ft. Sumner. The residence was owned by Kelby Randolph. A married couple that resided with Randolph were killed inside this residence with a firearm.
