TACOMA, Wash. — The Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium will unveil two of its latest additions later this month: twin sister polar bear cubs. Astra and Laerke arrived Friday evening after being born at the Detroit Zoo two years ago and will make their public debut on June 15.

Salmon fishing around Tacoma and Vashon Island is back starting June 1, 2023 and anglers all over the South Puget Sound area are ready to get back out on the water. Black Bear Diner’s Federal Way location reopened this week after a four-month closure for renovations. Transformation of the 50-year-old building, which is owned and operated by franchisee Danny Banwait, was one that had the comfort of customers and staff in mind, a release said. Updates were made to seating, light fixtures, bathroom signage, HVAC, and plumbing. Renovations to the back of the house additionally introduced all new equipment and more space for staff, the release added.

Another casino has traded hands in Lakewood, involving the same buyer and seller of a casino property that sold in the city last year. The 21,624 square foot Palace and Chips was purchased for $27 million, or about $1,248 per square foot, according to Pierce County public records. The seller was an entity affiliated with Maverick Gaming, and the buyer was an entity affiliated with Oak Street Real Estate Capital, which is based in Chicago, Ill.
